Home to Indonesia's Flagship State-Owned Shipbuilder. Surabaya is home to PT PAL Indonesia, Indonesia's largest state-owned shipbuilder building naval vessels, submarines and commercial ships, while also carrying out major repair and overhaul work.
Major Naval Shipbuilding & Submarine Programmes. The Surabaya facilities of PT PAL are involved in sophisticated naval projects including the Fregat Merah Putih programme and Scorpene Evolved submarine, creating opportunities for suppliers of propulsion, electrical systems, automation, navigation, communications, pumps, valves and other marine equipment.
Indonesia is Strengthening Domestic Shipbuilding. The Indonesian government announced plans in 2026 to consolidate state-owned shipbuilding activities around PT PAL and channel vessel construction for state-owned companies through domestic shipbuilding capacity, potentially creating a strong pipeline of newbuild requirements for equipment and technology suppliers.
